Election Day – Results Night – Analysis

On March 18, The Hague headed to the polls once again. This time for the municipal council elections following the national parliamentary elections a few months earlier. Residents of The Hague could cast their vote for twenty different parties. On Election Day, we visited several polling stations across the city and spoke with volunteers and voters about their experiences and about the importance of voting.

We were also present at the Results Night of several parties at different locations throughout the city: Volt The Hague, VVD The Hague, and Hart voor Den Haag. Watch the first reactions to the exit polls and the preliminary results. We also spoke with party leaders Mylène Tabernal, Lotte van Basten Batenburg, and Richard de Mos about the results, their campaigns, and their vision for the political future of the city over the next four years.

‘The morning after,’ Maxime Kok, political reporter with Den Haag FM, shared his in-depth analysis of the recent election campaigns and the results they produced. Why did Hart voor Den Haag grow even larger than expected, and what is the secret behind Richard de Mos’ success? Which coalitions are possible in the new city council?
